Family Favorite Spareribs
Why wait for barbecue season, these ribs are a treat anytime of year!
ingredients
- 5 lbs. spareribs
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 1/4 cups apple cider vinegar
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 cups Cane or Karo Patch Syrup
- 1/3 cup chopped onion
- 1/3 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 tbs. fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

1. Separate the ribs into individual pieces. In a 6-quart pot, cover the ribs with water. Add the salt and pepper. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered for 40 minutes.

2. While the ribs are cooking, prepare the sauce by combining the vinegar, ketchup, barbecue sauce, syrup, onion, bell pepper, lemon juice and red pepper flakes in a 1-1/2 quart saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat.

3. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.

4. Drain the ribs and place on a 10 x 15 inch baking (jelly roll) pan. Pour the sauce over the ribs and turn to coat the ribs. Bake for 20 minutes, covered with aluminum foil. Turn the ribs and bake uncovered for 20 minutes longer.
notes
You may use any type of spare rib you like but if you use baby-backs, cook less time.
