Nana's Fish Chowder
This is a New England classic. Easy and great for a starter or a whole meal.
ingredients
- 1 medium onion diced
- 1/2 cup celery diced
- 2 T butter
- 2 large potato pealed and diced
- 1 lb haddock
- Water
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 pint of light cream
- 1 tsp fresh thyme (optional)
directions
Sauté onion and celery in butter, set aside. In a medium sauce pan, par boil fresh fish in enough water to cover the fish. When fish turns white(just when it comes to a boil), remove it and set aside. Cook dices potato in fish stock until folk tender. Add sauteed onions and celery. Cut fish into small chunks and add to broth. Just before serving add cream and pepper to taste.
notes
Nana said you can also use minced clams and/or crab meat with the fish. You can also add fresh ground nutmeg or Old Bay seasoning, which adds a different flavor.
