Steamed Chinese Broccoli & Choy Sum with Garlic Oyster Sauce
Chicken Little joins us on the deck for a barbecue.
ingredients
- 1/2 pound choy sum, ends trimmed, or baby bok choy
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons thinly sliced garlic
- 1/4 cup oyster sauce
- 1/4 cup chicken or vegetable stock
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
- 1/4 cup packaged fried shallots

Fit a steamer over a pot containing 2 inches of water, and bring to a boil. Place broccoli and choy sum in steamer, cover and cook for 5 minutes or until greens are tender but still retain some crunch.

Meanwhile, heat sesame oil in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Add garlic and stir for 10 seconds or until fragrant. Add the next 5 ingredients and cook until sauce is glossy and slightly thickened.

Place greens on serving platter and pour sauce over top.

Garnish with fried shallots.
