This is out of Martha Stewart’s Everyday Food magazine. It’s a basic muffin recipe to which you can add any variety of ingredients (see notes on add-ins at the bottom). We had my apple-version of these when you and Carrie visited Charlottesville in Fall, 2008.

ingredients

  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted, plus more for pan
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled), plus more for pan
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • mix-ins (see variations, below)
  • 2 tablespoons sanding sugar (optional)

Best served with Brie cheese on crackers and eaten on a fall weekend in Charlottesville with pumpkin-spice coffee and good friends.
