PamelaPamela Matteoni

It wouldn’t be a Matteoni Christmas morning without this!

ingredients

  • Loaf of white bread, cubed (with crusts removed)
  • 3 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • Jimmy Dean “heat & serve”sausage links, cooked and cut into bite size pieces (you can also use chopped ham)
  • 12 eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper

directions

  • 1

    Grease a 9 x 13 Pyrex dish.

  • 2

Cover bottom with half the bread cubes.

  • 3

Layer with half of the sausage.

  • 4

Sprinkle with half of the cheese.

  • 5

    Repeat the layers.

  • 6

Beat the eggs, milk, salt and pepper.

  • 7

    Pour over the the casserole.

  • 8

Cover tightly with foil and refrigerate overnight.

  • 9

Take out of the refrigerator and allow to get close to room temperature before baking.

  • 10

    Bake at 350 degrees for 40 - 45 minutes.

  • 11

You may have to make this a few times to get it right. Sometimes the middle doesn’t cook all the way through, but the edges do. If it gets too brown, cover with foil at the end of the baking.
