Cranberry Compote
The canned stuff cannot compare.
ingredients
- 6 ounces fresh cranberries, rinsed
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- Pinch of salt
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
- 1/2 cup red wine
directions
Combine cranberries, zest, 1/2 cup sugar, water, salt, wine and then add cinnamon sticks. Bring mixture to a boil and cook for 10 minutes. Dissolve cornstarch in the orange juice. Add to cranberries and stir to blend. Simmer another 15 minutes until mixture is thick. Remove cinnamon sticks. Cool completely. Cover and refrigerate until chilled.

There are many variations of this, but this seems to be the best.
