Grandma made the best chocolate pie!

ingredients

  • 1/3 cup flour (or cornstarch)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • (cocoa)
  • 2 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/3 tsp vanilla
  • 1 baked pastry shell

directions

Mix first 4 ingredients well. Add small amount of milk to mix smooth, then the rest of milk. Cook until boils, add a small amount of filling to slightly beaten egg yolks and butter, then add to filling and cook until thick, stirring as it cooks. Pour into pie shell and cover with meringue.

Meringue

Beat whites of 3 eggs, until stiff. Add 3 Tbsp sugar and beat again for 3 mins. Bake at 325’ 15 min.

Variations:

  • 1

    Chocolate - 1 cup sugar, 2 squares choc., or 4 Tbsp cocoa

  • 2

    Butterscotch - 1 cup brown sugar

  • 3

    Coconut - add 3/4 cup coconut to cream filling and sprinkle 1/2 cup over meringue
