Chocolate Scotcheroos

Everyone’s favorite treat. Grandma would bring them every time she came to visit and even sent them to me in college and made them for Mark when he was deployed.

ingredients

  • 1 Cup light Karo syrup
  • 1 Cup sugar
  • 1 Cup creamy peanut butter
  • 6 Cups Rice Krispies
  • 6 oz chocolate chips
  • 6 oz butterscotch chips

directions

    Put Karo and sugar in a 4 or 5 qt pot. Heat until it comes to a bubbling boil. Remove from heat. Add peanut butter and mix well. Then add Rice Krispies, folding them in quickly so mixture doesn’t harden in pot. Pour into 9x13 glass dish that has been greased with butter. Spread with a fresh spoon - helps to keep from sticking.

    While cooling, melt chocolate and butterscotch chips in a double boiler. Spread over Rice Krispie mixture. Let stand until chocolate hardens.

    Cut into bars.
