This recipe makes enough Play Clay for 4-5 children. It is best used for modeling figures or fore making landforms. To harden the figure or landform, let it stand in the open air for at least 3-5 days to dry thoroughly inside and out.

ingredients

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 c. salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 T vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water, food coloring
Utensils:
  • Saucepan
  • large spoon
  • measuring spoons
  • stove or heating element

directions

Combine all dry ingredients in a saucepan. Stir in vegetable oil and water. Add food coloring drop by drop until the desire color is achieved. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent sticking or burning. When the Play Clay has the consistency of mashed potatoes and begins to pull away from teh sides of the saucepan, remove it from the heat. Let the Play Clay cool thoroughly and then knead it for one minute. Store the Play Clay in an airtight container.
