Homemade Pickles

Makes 3 quarts

ingredients

  • 2 quarts cucumbers
  • 1 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1 and 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 clove chopped garlic per jar
  • 2 sprigs fresh dill per quart

    Slice cucumbers into chips and fill Mason Canning Jars 3/4 full

  • 2

    Add garlic and fresh dill to jars

    Bring salt, water, vinegar, and sugar to a boil and then pour into jars over pickles leaving 1/2 inch head space

  • 4

    Tighten lids on jars and put into boiling water for 15 minutes to seal

  • 5

    Remove from boiling water with rongs and place in refrigerator for 5-7 days before opening

notes

Be sure to remove jars from boiling water and but in refrigerator while they are hot. The hot to cold transfer helps seal the jars.
