Toffee Bars
ingredients
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 12 oz. bag milk chocolate chips
- pecans or walnuts chopped fine

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan with cooking spray. In large bowl, cream butter, brown sugar, vanilla and egg yolk until light and fluffy. Stir in flour and salt; mix well. Press mixture in pan.

Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until light brown and tester comes out clean (crust will be soft). Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on hot crust. Let stand about 5 minutes or until chocolate is soft, spread evenly (if the chocolate is not spreading easily, just put pan back into the off oven for a minute or so to soften, then continue to spread. Sprinkle with pecans or walnuts.

Cool 30 minutes in pan. For bars, cut into 8 rows by 4 rows.
