Fried Mice

  • 3 sticks sweet butter
  • 3/4 C milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 1/2 cakes of yeast or 4 pkgs of dry yeast
  • 3/4 C sour cream
  • 1/2 C sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 5 C flour (5 to 6 1/2)
  • 3 tbsp rum (3-4)
  • oil
  • powdered sugar

Melt the butter in a small bowl. Scald the mild in a small pan, and allow it to cool a little. Mix the melted butter, warm milk, eggs, yeast, sour cream, rum, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl. Add the flour and knead the mixture until thoroughly mixed. Allow the dough to rise until it doubles in size. Heat the oil in a large pot. Using a spoon, scoop the dough (baseball size scoops) and drop the “mice” into the oil. Allow to cook until golden brown. Once cooked, place mice on paper towel to soak up oil and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Enjoy!
