Mother's Butter Cake
ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter or marge
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 whole eggs
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 cups flour
- 3 teas. baking powder
- 1 teas. vanilla
- Coconut or Toasted Nut topping

Cream butter and sugar together, add eggs and beat, add sifted dry ingredients and milk and vanilla. Bake in square, greased and floured pan about 40 min.

Combine 3 T. butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar. Cook over low flame until melted. Add about 1 cup chopped nuts or coconut or 1/2 each, and a little coffee cream about 1/4 cup, to make consistency to spread. I use a fork to spread it on baked cake. Put under the broiler until bubbles form, be sure to watch carefully.

I usually make more than (topping) it calls for as it will make you fatter. Betty wrote this.
