Grandma Verna's Nut Brittle
ingredients
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup white syrup
- 1 cup nuts (any kind)
- 1 cup butter
- 1 tsp soda
directions
Combine sugar, water, syrup. Cook and stir until sugar dissolves. When syrup boils put in butter a little at a time. Stir often after mixture hits syrupy stage (230 degrees). Add nuts at 280 degrees. Stir constantly until Hard crack stage. Remove from heat and add soda quickly. Pour into a greased cookie sheet to cool. Break up when dry. Store in airtight container.
notes
Use a candy thermo. and a heavy kettle.
