Chicken-Avocado Tortilla Soup

- 1 chopped onion
- 3 cloves garlic, pressed
- 3/4 t. cumin
- 3/4 t. oregano
- 1/4 t. chili powder
- 1/4 t. pepper
- Salt to taste
- 8 cups chicken broth
- 1 can (14 oz.) diced tomatoes
- 1 can diced roasted green chilies
- 10 corn tortillas
- 1 1/2 lbs. chicken breasts
- 1 avocado
- 2 T. chopped fresh cilantro
- shredded cheese
- fat-free sour cream

In stockpot, saute onion, garlic, cumin, oregano, chili powder & pepper until onion is transparent. Add broth, tomatoes & chilies and heat to boiling.

stack tortillas and cut into strips, add to boiling broth. reduce heat to simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add cut chicken to broth and return to boil over hight heat, reduce heat and simmer until meat is done (5-10 minutes). Salt to taste.

Ladle into bowls and top with avocados. cilantro, cheese and/or sour cream.
