A dish that brings back memories, the first time I made this dish after I had been out on my own I ate for a week straight! Perfect for feeding a family. (You have to refrigerate overnight!)

ingredients

  • 1/2 lb ground sausage
  • 1 1/2 C Diced celery
  • 1/2 lb hamburger
  • 1 lg onion, chopped
  • 1/2 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 can sliced water chestnuts
  • 2 pkgs lipton dry chicken noodle soup mix
  • 3 C boiling water
  • 1/2 C uncooked rice
  • 1 4oz can mushroom pieces
  • 2 1/2 oz pkg sliced almonds

directions

Brown meat, drain fat leaving 4 tbl. Saute onion, pepper, celery and mushrooms. Poor 3 cups boiling water into casserole dish, add soup mix, stir. Add other ingredients, except almonds. Refrigerate overnight. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour covered. Sprinkle almonds on top and bake 1/2 hour uncovered.
