Our Chicken and Dumplings
Dropped dumplings in a hearty chicken soup!
ingredients
- 3-5 lb chicken
- 2 quarts water
- 2 bay leaves
- 3 tbsp minced garlic [from jar]
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 ribs celery, diced
- 3 whole carrots, diced
- 2 tbs thyme
- 2 tbs poultry seasoning
- 1 tbs paprika
- salt and pepper
- 2 cans cream corn
- 1 can peas, drained
- Dumplings:
- 2 c of white flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp thyme
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp poultry seasoning
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp soft margarine or butter
- 1 c of butter milk (or more)

Dumplings:

Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.

Cut in butter that’s been kept at room temperature or use soft margarine.

Stir milk lightly into the flour mixture with a wooden spoon and adjust amounts to make sure that you have a moist dumpling dough.

Drop into the chicken soup or roll out

Dennis made the dumplings as I made the broth. We have found that we LOVE cooking together and making meals a family event.
