Sausage Stuffer Breakfast Casserole
Aunt Joni first served this to us in Minnesota. The Meltzer family has it most Christmas mornings along with the cinnamon rolls!
ingredients
- 1/2 pound sausage (ham or Hillshire Farms sausage also work well)
- 1/2 pound bacon
- 6 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 2 slices of bread, cubed
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
directions
- 1
Cut bacon into pieces and cook. Drain bacon bits on paper towel and drain off most of grease before browning sausage next.
- 2
Beat together eggs and milk, dry mustard and salt.
- 3
Slice bread into cubes.
- 4
Layer bread cubes, sausage and bacon in 8x8 pan. Sprinkle cheese on top and then pour egg mixture over the top. Bake at 350°for 45 minutes.
- 5
Double the recipe and bake in a 9x13 pan instead. Can be made the night before and baked the next morning as well.
notes
This is a great recipe because it can be made the night ahead. The Meltzers like to use the Hillshire Farms sausage and bacon together.
