Sicilian Style "Strata"
Great Egg Dish to serve 8 for Brunch
ingredients
- 1 loaf crusty, Italian-style bread, cut into 1" cubes
- 4 oz thick-sliced prosciutto or ham, diced
- 1/4 cup chopped roasted red peppers
- 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 can chopped tomatoes (14 oz)
- 1/4 cup pitted black olives, chopped
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 6 large eggs
- 3 cups milk
- 2 tsp dried Italian seasoning blend
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley
- 2 T drained capers

1. spread half the bread cubes level in lightly oiled 9x13" baking dish & top evenly with prosciutto, peppers, green onions & parmesan cheese

2. spread remaining bread cubes on top and follow with tomatoes, olives & mozzarella

3. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, Italian seasoning & S&P to blend

4. pour over the layered ingredients and cover and chill at least 1 hour or up to one day

5. preheat oven to 325°

6. bake until center of strata is set & top is lightly browned (40-50 minutes)

7. Sprinkle evenly with parsley & capers & let stand 10 minutes

8. Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature
