Nana's Short Bread Cookies

  • 1 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cups flour
  • cherries, nuts or candies

Cream butter and work in brown sugar. Cream for 5 minutes. Beat in one egg yolk. Gradually sift in flour. Knead with hands until soft and pliable. Form into small soft balls and place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork. Put a cherry/candy/nut in the centre. Bake at 325°F until light brown.
