Baked Ziti Casserole

ingredients

  • 16 ounces ziti, or penne pasta
  • 1 lb. sweet Italian sausage links
  • 2 carrots peeled and cut in 1/2 in. pieces
  • 2 celery stalks cut in 1/2 in. pieces
  • I medium onion diced
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tsp. flour
  • 1 28 oz can crushed tomaotes in puree
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 16 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese. Reserve 1 cup for topping.

With no salt, cook pasta and drain. Meanwhile, remove casings and cook sausage in large skillet breaking up into small pieces. Remove from pan and cook carrots, celery and onion in drippings until golden and almost tender. Mix flour and milk and stir with fork until smooth. Stir into cooked veggies. Add tomatoes, basil and pepper and heat to boiling. Mix all ingredients and cheedse with pasta. Put into a 3 qt casserole and cover with cheese. Bake 15-20 minutes at 375.
