- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 large onion
- 1 lb ground beef
- Large can (28 oz) of tomato sauce
- Large can (28 oz) of tomato puree
directions
- 1
Chop onion and garlic and brown in large frying pan with olive oil. Add chopped meat and mix over low heat until browned.
- 2
In large pot, mix contents of frying pan with tomato sauce and tomato puree, basil, sugar, salt and pepper.
- 3
Bring to slow boil, reduce heat and allow to simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- 4
Allow to cool before freezing or refrigerating.
notes
This recipe originaly called for crushed tomatoes instead of puree, and needed to cook for almost 4 hours. Using puree cuts down on cooking time and results in a more conisistent sauce thickness.
