directions
Prepare Beans:
Clean beans from bag in cold water. Put beans in a container cover with water (and then some) and let beans sit overnight. Clean again.
Prepare Soup:
- 1
Cook ham bone in water. Let cool and remove ham. Pull meat off the bone and add to soup brine. Add additional ham if required.
- 2
Add beans, onions, chili powder, lemon juice, garlic powder. Squeeze whole, peeled tomatoes in your hand and add juice from can.
- 3
Add ham pack (from bean mix), Sea salt, white pepper, black pepper, celery salt. Crush the celery seed with a mortar and pestle and add.
- 4
Bring to a boil and reduce heat and let simmer. Stir regularly.
notes
Don't add beans until the end otherwise the beans will get mushy and the soup won't look as nice-- tastes good but won't look as nice.
