Nasty Spaghetti

My boys nicknamed this one “Nasty Spaghetti” one night at the dinner table. They both agreed it was the nastiest thing I had ever made...with big smiles on their faces as they shoveled it in as fast as they could!
I love this recipe. It’s quick and easy and so versatile. You can substitute any kind of dried pasta you would like, or have on hand in the kitchen. You can even use dried wheat pasta, and no one will know the difference. I know, I’ve done it. And you can use any type of ground meat you like. I have made this with hamburger, ground turkey, and ground sausage. My personal favorite is to mix ground turkey and ground sausage together.

ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1 Red Onion (chopped)
  • 3 Cloves Garlic (mined)
  • 1 Pound of Ground Beef
  • 1 Large Can Italian Herb Crushed Tomatoes
  • 1 Small Can Basil, Garlic and Olive Oil Diced Tomatoes
  • 1 Small Can Zesty Jalapeno or Green Chile Diced Tomatoes
  • 2 Teaspoons Beef Bouillon
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1/4 Cup Fresh Basil (chopped)
  • 1 Pound Dried Pasta Noodles
  • 1/4 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese

    In a large Dutch Oven heat olive oil and butter over medium high heat. Add chopped red onion and minced garlic. Saute until onions are soft, stir frequently so garlic does not burn.

    Add ground beef and cook until no longer pink.

    Add crushed and diced tomatoes. Stir together with beef.

    In a separate pot, boil water for pasta. I always add a splash of olive oil before boiling. And a dash of salt when boiling before adding noodles.

    In the dutch oven, add the beef bouillon and sugar. Add salt and pepper to taste. Leave on low.

    When pasta noodles are just about done (still slightly hard in center), drain from water.

    Add noodles to sauce and stir together.

    Add chopped fresh basil.

    Place cover on dutch oven and leave on low 10 minutes or so. Stirring occasionally.

    Add grated Parmesan cheese right before serving.
