I remember asking my Mom at the beginning of every week, “Are you going to make German short ribs this week?” These are so tender and tasty after cooking all day.

ingredients

  • 3 1/2 lbs short ribs
  • 2 TBLS flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 2 med onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 3 TBLS brown sugar
  • 1 TBLS worchestire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 TBLS flour

    Mix together 2 TBLS flour, salt and pepper; coat ribs. In a large skillet, brown ribs in a little shortening/oil. Place ribs in crock pot. Mix together remaining ingredients in a bowl, except the other 2 TBLS flour, and pour over ribs. Cook 6-8 hours on low-medium.

    After cooking, to make the sauce a little thicker, take a few TBLS of sauce out of the crock pot and mix with 1-2 TBLS of flour.. add this back to remaining sauce in the crock pot; continue until sauce is at desired thickness.

    My Mom would serve the short ribs over egg noodles. Yum-o!

notes

If you can find boneless short ribs, they are usually less fatty.
