- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/4 cup molasses mixed with 1/8 cup warm water)
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- Glaze - 1 beaten egg
directions
- 1
Preheat oven to 350°.
- 2
Cream butter, sugars and eggs. Toss dry ingredients together. Add them to wet ingredients. Fold in raisins and nuts. Spread batter onto greased cookie sheets shaping into strips 10 x 13" spaced seven inches apart. Paint 4 strips with egg glaze.
- 3
Bake at 350° for 10-15 minutes.
- 4
Move to a cooling rack. After completely cool, cut into strips / bars. Recipe should yield 36 bars. Drizzle with confectioners sugar glaze (confectioners sugar & tsp. milk - check for the right consistency).
notes
My mom makes the strips narrower, about 1 1/2" wide cooking for 10 minutes. If you make them wider, cook for 15 minutes.
