ingredients

  • CAKE:
  • 1/3 c crisco
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 egg unbeaten
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 3/4 sifted flour
  • 3/4 c milk (2 Tbl more milk at times)
  • Extra Smooth Chocolate Icing:
  • 3 c sifted confectioners sugar
  • 1/3 c undiluted carnation milk
  • 4 squares melted unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/3 c softened butter or margarine

    Preheat oven to 425°

    Cake:

    Combine crisco, salt, vanilla and cream well. Add egg and beat until creamy.

    Add baking soda to 1 3/4 cups of the sifted flour and sift 3 more times.

    Add small amount of the flour to the cream mixture, add milk a little at a time after each addition until smooth.

    Put batter into greased cupcake pans. Bake 15-18 min.

    Extra Smooth Chocolate Icing:

    Combine sugar with milk and cooled chocolate and blend well. Stir in softened butter and beat until light and fluffy.
