ingredients

  • 10 large whole cabbage leaves (probably need two heads of cabbage)
  • SAUCE:
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 28 oz of canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/2 C. brown sugar
  • 1/4 C. red wine vinegar
  • 2 cups water
  • STUFFING:
  • 1 pound ground sirloin
  • 1 pound bulk Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup diced sweet onion
  • 1 Tbl. sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 2 tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 2 garlic cloves, pressed
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 3/4 cup rice, cooked al dente and cooled
