All American Chili
Great for a cold night! A favorite for before trick or treating on Halloween or Super Bowl Sunday. Tastes even better the next day.
ingredients
- hot turkey Italian sausage
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 chopped green pepper
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 pound hamburger
- 1 jalapeno pepper, chopped
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 small can tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cup fruity red wine, like Merlot
- 2 28 oz cans diced tomatoes
- 2 15 oz cans kidney beans, drained
- 1/3 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Heat A large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Remove casings from Italian sausage. Add sausage, onion, and next 4 ingredients through jalapeno to pan, cook 8 minutes or until sausage is browned, stirring to crumble.

Add chili powder and the next 6 ingredients (chili powder through salt) and cook for one minute, stirring constantly. Stir in wine, tomatoes, and kidney beans, bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

3. Uncover and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Sprinkle each serving with cheese, if desired. Makes about 8 servings.
