Apple Almond Bars
ingredients
- 2 C. Flour
- 1/2 C. Sugar
- 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
- 1/2 tsp. Salt
- 1 C. Butter
- 1/2 C. Sliced Almonds
- 2 Egg Yolks, slightly beaten
- 3/4 C. Sugar
- 1/4 C. Flour
- 1 tsp.Ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. Ground Nutmeg
- 4 Medium Cooking Apples (such as
- Golden Delicious, Rome, Granny
- Smith or Jonathan)peeled, cored &
- sliced (4 cups)
- Icing:
- 3/4 Powdered Sugar
- 1 Tbsp. Milk
- 1/4 tsp. Almond Extract

In a large bowl, stir together the 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until pieces are the size of small peas. Stir in the almonds and egg yolks with a fork. Press half of the mixture (about 2 cups) into the bottom of an ungreased 13x9x2 inch baking pan;set aside.

In another large bowl, stir together the 3/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add apples and toss to coat. Arrange evenly over mixture in pan. Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture evenly over apple mixture. Bake in a 350° oven about 35 minutes or until topping is golden. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Drizzle with Icing. Let stand until set. Cut into bars.

In a small bowl, stir together powdered sugar, milk and almond extract until smooth.
