Spaghetti Sauce
ingredients
- 1/2 lbs sweet or hot Italian sausage
- 1 1/2 lbs ground chuck
- 1 C finely chopped onion
- 1 C chopped green pepper
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp salt
- 2 tsp dried basil
- 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper
- 1 2 lbs 3 oz ca Italian style tomatoes, undrained
- 2 8 oz cans tomato sauce
- 1 lbs spaghetti
- grated parmesan cheese
directions
Remove sausage meat from outer casings; chop sausage.
In 5-qt. Dutch oven, over medium, saute ground chuck, susage meat, onion, green pepper and garlic, stirring frequently until meat is browned and vegetables are tender--about 20 minutes.
Add sugar, salt, basil and crushed red pepper; mix well. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce and 1 cup water; mash tomatoes with spon. Bring to boiling; reduce heat; simmer, covered and stirring occasionally, until thickened--1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Cook spaghetti according to package directions; drain. Spoon sauce over spaghetti; sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
