Sweet & Sour Meatballs
Grandma got this recipe from Maggie in July of 1991. She rated this dish XXXX!!
ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb of ground beef
- 3/4 cup bread crumbs
- 1 med. onion chopped
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 Tbsp snipped parsley
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- Sm. Amount of oil to brown meat
- Plum or pineapple sauce for the meatballs:
- 1 can (20 oz.) pineapples chunks; drained, save juice
- And/or fresh plums, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 2 carrots, cut into thin strips
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 tsp “soya sauce”
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 clove of garlic, finely chopped
- 1 green pepper, cut into pieces
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch
- 2 Tbsp water

Mix above ingredients shape into small meatballs, and fry in oil.

Set aside.

Add enough water to reserved pineapple juice to make one cup. Heat the juice mixture with the sugar, vinegar, corn starch, water, carrots, onion, soy sauce, salt, and garlic to boiling. Reduce heat and cover to simmer. Add green peppers, meatballs, pineapple &/or plums. Heat to boiling, then leave at boiling for about 1 min. You can use a crock pot to keep warm.
