Poppy Seed Bread

  • 3 cups flour

  • 2½ cups sugar

  • 1½ tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1½ tbsp poppy seeds

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 cup & 2 tbsp Crisco

  • 1½ cups milk

  • 1½ tsp each: almond, vanilla and butter extract

  • glaze topping:

  • ¾ cup sugar

  • ¼ cup orange juice

  • ½ tsp each: almond, vanilla and butter extract

  • Combine ingredients and beat for 2 mins on medium speed.

  • Pour into two greased and floured loaf pans.

  • Bake for one hour at 350°.

  • While baking, combine ingredients for glaze topping and warm through.

  • Immediately remove pans from oven and poke holes in top of loaves with large fork.

  • Pour warm glaze over each and let set 5 mins.

  • Remove from pan and let cool.
