Toasted Sesame Cookies
ingredients
- 2 1/8 ounces (1cup) sesame seeds
- 1 1/8 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine (1 stick)
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon double acting baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg

* About 2 hours before serving or up to 1 week ahead.

* In 10 inch skillet over medium heat toast sesame seeds until golden, stirring frequently.

* Remove from skillet and set aside.

* In large bowl, measure flour and remaining ingredients.

* With a mixer at low speed, beat ingredients until well blended, occasionally scraping bowl with rubber spatula.

* With wooden spoon, stir in 1/2 cup of toasted sesame seeds.

* Preheat oven to 350°.

* Shape 2 teaspoons of dough at a time into 2 inch long ovals (logs).

* Roll ovals in remaining sesame seeds.

* Place ovals 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

* Bake 20 minutes or until lightly brown.
