Kimba's Spicy Biscuits and Gravy
Although not a Southerner myself, my love for Southern cooking comes from Michael. I’ve combined bits of several recipes and my own changes to make this one just the way we like it - a little on the spicy side - and it has become one of our favorites!
ingredients
- 1 can refrigerated biscuits
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 4 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper (or more to taste)
- Pepper to taste
- 2 1/4 cups milk
- 1 lb. low-fat Jimmy Dean ground sausage
directions
- 1
Preheat oven and prepare biscuits according to package directions.
- 2
Brown sausage over medium heat. Add a few shakes of cayenne pepper while cooking, if desired. When brown, drain return to pan and set aside.
- 3
Meantime, in medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and seasonings stirring with wire whisk to keep smooth. Pour milk in gradually while stirring constantly. Bring to boiling point and boil about 2 minutes.
- 4
When sauce is thick and creamy, mix into cooked sausage and mix well.
- 5
To serve, split a biscuit open onto plate and top with sausage-gravy mixture.
notes
A hearty breakfast! Serving with fried eggs is a must!
