Makes 2-layer 9" round cake

ingredients

6 large egg yolks
1 cup milk
2 1/4 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups sifted cake flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
12 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Two 9-inch by 1 1/2-inch cake pans, greased, bottoms lined with parchment or wax paper, and then greased again and floured
