Philly Steak and Cheese Sandwich
I love a good “Philly”... it’s a sure fire “stick to the ribs” kind of meal. This sandwich has a whole lot of flavor going’ on!
ingredients
- 1-2 lb. SHAVED deli roast beef
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 bottle of Italian dressing
- 1 white onion, halved and sliced
- 1 cup of green pepper, diced
- 1 lb. sliced mushrooms
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- salt and pepper
- 2 cups “au jus” for dipping sandwiches
- slices of American or Swiss cheese
- 4-6 hoagie buns
directions
- 1
Butter buns and toast them under the broiler.
- 2
Chop up the roast beef pretty well. Saute the roast beef, onions, mushrooms, garlic, salt, pepper and green peppers in butter and Worcestershire sauce until the onions are fairly soft. Mound the beef mixture up on the hoagie bun and drizzle with Italian dressing.
- 3
Top with slices of American or Swiss cheese. Pop the hoagie back under the broiler for a few seconds to melt the cheese. Serve immediately with a small cup of Au Jus! Yum!
- 4
*** Have the roast beef shaved as thin as possible... that makes for a more tender beef in the sandwich!
notes
Make sure to pile the beef onto the hoagie bun... skinny sandwiches just aren't cool!
