With a biscuit cutter, press a hole into the slice of bread.
Heat a skillet over medium-low heat and melt butter in it. Place the bread in the skillet and crack the egg into the hole.
Sprinkle the egg with salt and pepper to taste. After about a minute, flip it over and cook until egg is done.
Soak up remaining butter with cut out circle of bread.
