ingredients

  • 1/2 RECIPE PLAIN PASTRY
  • 3/4 CUP BROWN SUGAR
  • 1/2 TEASPOON SALT
  • 1 TEASPOON CINNAMON
  • 1/4 TEASPOON GROUND CLOVES
  • 1/4 TEASPOON GINGER
  • 1/4 TEASPOON NUTMEG
  • 1 1/2 CUPS CANNED PUMPKIN
  • 1 CUP WATER
  • 1 TABLESPOON MOLASSES
  • FOR THE GLAZE-
  • 1 TABLESPOON BUTTER OR MARGARINE
  • 2 TABLESPOONS BROWN SUGAR
  • 1 TABLESPOON GRATED ORANGE RIND
  • 1/4 CUP WHOLE PECANS

PREPARE AND ROLL THE PASTRY FOR THE SHELL, FIT INTO A 9-INCH PIE PLATE, AND FLUTE THE EDGES. CHILL. SET OVEN AT 425 DEGREES. BLEND THE BROWN SUGAR, SALT, CINNAMON, GINGER, CLOVES AND NUTMEG TOGETHER IN A LARGE BOWL. ADD THE PUMPKIN, MILK, WATER, EGGS AND MOLASSES. MIX UNTIL SMOOTH. POUR THIS INTO THE PASTRY SHELL AND BAKE ABOUT 40 MINUTES. WHEN THE PIE IS DONE, SPRINKLE WITH THE GLAZE AND RETURN THE PIE TO THE OVEN FOR 10 MORE MINUTES.
