Best Brownies Ever
ingredients
- 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 7 oz dark chocolate (70%), broken up
- 2 1/2 oz dried sour cherries (optional)
- 1 1/2 oz chopped nuts (optional)
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder, sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 3/4 cup super fine sugar
- 4 large eggs
- zest of 1 orange (optional)
- 9 fluid oz creme fraiche (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Line 12" rectangular baking pan with wax paper. In large bowl over simmering water, melt butter and chocolate and mix until smooth. Add cherries and nuts if using, stir in. Remove from heat. Allow to cool slightly.

In separate bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and sugar, then add this to chocolate mixture. Stir together well, then beat the eggs and mix it until you have a silky consistency.

Pour brownie batter into baking pan, and place in oven for 25 minutes. Allow to cool, add a dollop of creme fraiche mixed with orange zest if desired.
