ingredients

  • canola oil -- for coating
  • 1/3 C semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 tbsp canola oil
  • 3/4 C sugar -- divided
  • 1/4 C cocoa
  • 2/3 C flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • pinch salt
  • 2 tbsp applesauce
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 C dried tart cherries

directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Lightly coat 8x8 inch pan with canola oil and set aside. Melt chocolate, butter and oil in a medium saucepan over low hat. Remove from heat. Combine sugar and cocoa in a medium bowl. Add to chocolate mixture and stir to combine. Stir in remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until knife comes out clean when inserted in the middle. Remove from oven and cool completely. Cut into 16 servings. Remove brownies from pan with a flexible spatula.
