Soraya's Shamu Guriru [1]
ingredients
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 cups honey (maybe a little more than that if you’ll be dipping into it while you’re cooking)
- 1 bunch cilantro leaves, chopped
- 1 lime squeezed so hard all the juice comes out into a waiting bowl.
- 4 Shamu[3] steaks (easily found at any of your local black markets)
- Salt and pepper to taste
directions
- 1
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, stir together cilantro, garlic, honey, and lime juice. Heat until the honey is easily stirred, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and let cool slightly.
- 2
Place shamu steaks in a baking dish, and season with salt and pepper. Pour marinade over salmon, cover, and refrigerate 10 minutes.
- 3
Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat.
- 4
Lightly oil grill grate. Place salmon steaks on grill, cook 5 minutes on each side, or until whale is easily flaked with a fork.
Cook’s Notes
[1] That’s Japanese for grilled. I wanted your children to understand what they were eating.
[3] Some less cool people replace delicious whale meat with totally lame salmon. You can make these substitutions if you care about things like “endangered species”, or the “environment.”
notes
The recipe is intended for 6, which I figured would work for you guys considering Raena eats for 4 and Adam for 2.
