Great Grandma's Banana Nut Bread
This rich, and crunchy bread goes great smothered with peanut butter. Also great for breakfast and a snack.
ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 or 4 large, very ripe, bananas, well mashed
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla (I use banana flavoring instead of vanilla)
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
directions
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Mix in the mashed bananas. Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt togather. Add gradually to other mixture. Last add chopped nuts and flavoring. Bake in loaf pan 375 degrees for 45 to 65 minutes.
