Spicy Apple Twists
I always think of Uncle Bill when I see this recipe. We made it for him when we were newlyweds and just the 3 of us were living in California and he would come to visit. The recipe comes from my college roommate. Marlis gave me a whole box of hand-scribed recipes as her wedding gift to me. She was my maid of honor.
ingredients
- 2 large apples, peeled and cored
- 1 can refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
- 2 T. butter, melted
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 t. cinnamon
- 1/4 c. water
directions
Cut each apple into 8 pieces. Unroll crescent roll dough; separate into 8 triangles. Cut each in half lengthwise to make 16 triangle strips. Place an apple piece at wide end of each strip; roll up. Arrange in 9" square Pyrex dish. Drizzle with butter; sprinkle with mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Pour water into pan, but not over dumplings. Bake at 400° for 30-35 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve warm as is, or with whipped cream, or even vanilla ice cream.
