Onion Strings and Southwest Dipping Sauce

These are your classic onion strings. They are very easy to make and very, very yummy! The dipping sauce is like the dipping sauce that comes with a Bloomin’ Onion at Outback Steakhouse.

  • Onion Strings:

  • Slice onion very thin. Place in a baking dish and cover with buttermilk for at least one hour.

  • Combine dry ingredients and set aside.

  • Heat oil to 375 degrees.

  • Grab a handful of onions, throw into the flour mixture, tap to shake off excess, and PLUNGE into hot oil. Fry for a few minutes and remove as soon as golden brown.

  • Repeat until all onions are gone.

  • Dipping Sauce:

  • In a small bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, paprika, salt, oregano, black pepper and cayenne pepper. Store covered in the refrigerator until needed.
