Creamy Stone Ground Grits
ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon ground white pepper
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup stone ground white or yellow grits
- 2 cups shredded white or yellow cheddar cheese
directions
In a large, heavy saucepan, over medium heat, combine the milk, water, salt, pepper and 2 tablespoons of the butter. Bring the liquid to a gentle boil. Slowly stir in stone ground grits and return to low boil. Then reduce to low heat, cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring often. Add additional water as needed. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the cheese and remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and serve.
