chocolate covered cherries
MY favorite Christmas give away!
ingredients
- 2 1/2 C. confectioners sugar
- 1/4C. butter; softened
- 1T. milk
- 1/2t vanilla or almond extract
- (2) 8oz. jars maraschino cherries,long stemmed, well drained and dried off.
- 2C. semi-sweet chocolate chips(12oz. bag)
- 2T. shortening,like Crisco
directions
In mixing bowl, combine sugar, butter, milk, and extract. mix well. Knead into large ball Roll into individual 1“ balls&flatten each ball into a 2” disc. Wrap around cherry and lightly roll in hands. Place stems up onto waxed paper lined baking sheet. Cover loosely and refrigerate 4-24 hours. Melt chips with shortening in double boiler or micro safe bowl. Holding stem, dip into chocolate; set on wax paper to harden. Store in covered container, refrigerated up to 2 weeks.
