Joyce's sausage with sauce

I make this all the time for family picnics and holiday dinners. You can cut sausage into bite sized pieces or leave them whole to fit on a bun. This has great flavor.

  • Put sausage in oil and water and let bake for one hour on 350 degrees, covered.

  • Meanwhile, cut peppers, onion, garlic and saute in oil. Add tomatoes and basil and simmer for 10 minutes.

  • Remove cover from sausage and drain most of liquid (reserve some). Place back into oven for 30 minutes to brown (may need to turn sausage after 15 minutes).

  • After sausage is brown, add pepper and tomato mixture and place back into oven for one hour. Cover for ½ hour and uncover for ½ hour.

  • Can serve on buns or alone.
