Joyce's sausage with sauce
I make this all the time for family picnics and holiday dinners. You can cut sausage into bite sized pieces or leave them whole to fit on a bun. This has great flavor.
ingredients
- 4 garlic cloves
- 2 green pepper, chopped
- 2 red pepper, chopped
- 3 onions, diced
- 1 large can tomato sauce
- 1 large can crushed tomato
- fresh basil
- 5 lbs. sausage (rope)

Put sausage in oil and water and let bake for one hour on 350 degrees, covered.

Meanwhile, cut peppers, onion, garlic and saute in oil. Add tomatoes and basil and simmer for 10 minutes.

Remove cover from sausage and drain most of liquid (reserve some). Place back into oven for 30 minutes to brown (may need to turn sausage after 15 minutes).

After sausage is brown, add pepper and tomato mixture and place back into oven for one hour. Cover for 1/2 hour and uncover for 1/2 hour.

Can serve on buns or alone.
