Mom's Macaroni & Cheese

I got this recipe from my grandmother, Martica Pettit, who always served it with meat loaf!!!!

ingredients

  • 1 lb elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/8 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded extra sharp Cheddar Cheese

directions

Cook elbow macaroni in boiling water for 9 minutes. Preheat oven to 350. In med saucepan, melt butter over med hi heat. Add mustard, salt & pepper and stir. Add milk and bring mixture almost to a boil. DO NOT let boil over, it will make a HUGE MESS!!!! Remove from heat and stir in 2 cups shredded cheese. Drain macaroni and put in large oven casserole dish. Stir in milk/cheese mixture. Top with slices of extra sharp cheddar cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Take foil off and bake 10 minutes until melted and bubbly. Serve hot.
