Date Torte
ingredients
- 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
- 1/2 cup chopped dates
- 1/4 cup flaked coconut
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 4 egg whites
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 cup sugar
directions
Mix about 1/3 of the crumbs with dates and coconut. Mix remaining crumbs with baking powder. Beat egg whites with salt and cream of tartar until stiff but not dry. Gradually add sugar and continue to beat until very stiff and glossy. Fold in crumb mixture, then date mixture. Turn into a greased 9-inch pie pan and bake at 350° 20 to 25 minutes. Cut into wedges and serve warm with whipped cream.
